Group Gear Optimizer
Split the shared load — tents, stoves, rope, group food — across your crew so nobody ends up carrying an unfair pack.
Who is coming and what is shared?
Add members and shared gear, set each person's comfortable load limit. The greedy algorithm balances the packs for you.
Distribution
How is this calculated?
A simple greedy load-balancing algorithm. Start every member at their personal-gear weight, then take each shareable item sorted from heaviest to lightest and hand it to whoever currently carries the least total. This is the classic “longest processing time first” heuristic — it is near-optimal and always keeps packs as even as possible.
sort(shareable).desc(weight) → for each: assignTo(member with lowest currentTotal)
Items marked not shareable stay at the top of the list but are left out of the split (e.g. someone's own camera). If any member would exceed their limit, that person is flagged in red.
Heuristic: LPT scheduling (multiprocessor load balancing). Estimates only — real comfort also depends on fitness, terrain and distance.
