Privacy Policy
Plain-language summary of what this site does — and does not — collect. Last updated: 28 September 2026.
1. Introduction & overview
AI Outdoor Trip Planner ("we", "us", "the site") is a free, client-side set of outdoor planning calculators and guides. We designed it around a simple principle: your trip data stays on your device. This page explains exactly what information is stored on your own browser, what third parties may receive when you view the site, and how to control it.
Because we run no accounts, no login and no server-side database, there is nothing for us to sell or leak. The only data that leaves your browser is the minimal traffic required to load the page itself and to show third-party advertising.
2. What we collect (stored on your device)
We use your browser's localStorage to remember preferences between visits. This data never leaves your device. It includes:
- Language preference — your EN/ZH choice (
otp_lang). - Favorites — the tools and articles you heart, stored as
otp_favs. - Saved trip plans — itineraries you save in the Multi-Day Trip Planner, stored as
otp_plans.
All calculations you run — distances, calories, water, costs — are performed in JavaScript on your device. We do not log them. Clearing your browser site data removes all of the above.
3. What we do NOT collect
- No user accounts, names, emails or passwords are required to use any tool.
- No server-side tracking of your routes, inputs or results.
- No data uploads from the calculator forms to our servers.
- No sale of personal data — we have none to sell.
4. Cookies & third-party advertising
This site is supported by advertising. We may use Google AdSense and other third-party vendors to serve ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. The Google DART cookie allows Google and its partners to serve ads to your users based on their visit to your sites and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
We do not control these third-party cookies and are not responsible for their practices. Their use is governed by their own privacy policies.
5. External links & embedded resources
Hero and card images on this site are served from Unsplash (images.unsplash.com) under the Unsplash License. Loading these images sends a standard browser request to Unsplash, which may be logged according to Unsplash's own privacy policy. We also load web fonts from a CDN mirror; no personal data is included in those requests.
Where we link to external sites, we are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any site you visit.
6. Children's privacy (COPPA)
Our service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Because no data is uploaded to our servers in the first place, there is nothing for us to collect from a child. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will address it.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the site evolves (for example, if new advertising partners or features are added). The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
